Andrea’s 25: Inventive Italian Cooking in Commack

Written by Salvatore DiBenedetto [@TheGrubfather]

I’m a Hauppauge native and word of Andrea’s 25 has always drifted around town. The conversations were always positive – “Very good place.”, “Oh my god, their Luciano sauce.”, “We’ve been there before, loved it.” Yet for some reason, I had never actually gone in. That changed on a brisk October evening when Daniela and I waltzed in to a buzzing dining room filled with classy vibes and the familiar aroma of family.

“What we’re about at Andrea’s 25 is simple: It’s family, it’s cooking from the heart and it’s appreciating the legacy of our food.” Co-owner Salvatore Sorrentino tells me while wrapping a Nike bandana around his head. “It helps with my migraines” he explains.

He’s not lying, the restaurant is all about family, from the front of the house to the back where you’ll find two brothers, Sal and Matthew alongside their cousin Pete running the ship.

“Our recipes are straight up a result of our families’ recipes and our creative vision. As the next generation of restaurant owners, we wanted to leave our mark while still paying tribute to where our passion came from. The Sorrentino’s father, Andrew (also the namesake of Andrea’s 25) lead the family into many successful restaurant ventures before passing away in 2009.

The restaurant takes the traditional Italian dining experience to a new level, featuring creative fusions like

Signature sausage & broccoli rabe spring rolls

Steak bruschetta

Italian Mac n Cheese

THE Veal Chop

All four of these dishes bring something that’s familiar and somehow create a different experience. Most importantly, they maintain Andrea 25’s commitment to Italian flavor.

Another noteworthy element about the restaurant’s culinary program is the specials. Any given night you find yourself in the charming dining room, you’ll find a large chalk board covered in specialty dishes.

Yet, when it comes to Andrea’s 25, there is one key standout that separates it from the pact: The Luciano Sauce. Famed for it’s indulgently delicious flavor, the Luciano sauce can be found all over the menu or an option to add to any dish. After one taste, you’re guaranteed to be hooked – I know I was. So much so that I’d consider drinking it as a soup, no joke!

Andrea’s 25 is a great choice for just about any occasion. Since my first time in we’ve celebrated birthdays with a table of family and also enjoyed great date nights. Their catering and in-house events is popular as well. Don’t forget the Luciano sauce!
