Spiro’s Lounge: Rocking in Rocky Point

Written by Salvatore DiBenedetto [@TheGrubfather]

Heading East on Long Island you’ll find Spiro’s Restaurant & Lounge, a Rocky Point staple well known for their crazy cocktails and hearty food menu. What most don’t realize is that this was only the wildest dream of a young man who arrived from Greece with $32.00 to his name.

Spiro Karachopan, the owner whom welcomes everyone in with his name, first found a love of the food and drink experience while working on cruises. Spending time in the ocean’s kitchens, Spiro became inspired and carried this dream with him up until he arrived into the US. Flash forward to today and you have a space that’s rocking both locals and visitors alike.

“We want to be a place someone can come for a great steak or for a happy hour and have the experience they’re looking for.” Manager Jay shares with me.

It won’t be hard to catch a happy hour because Spiro’s celebrates 7 days a week. The drink menu here has garnered a reputation on Long Island for cool, fun cocktails but the bar is swinging premium liquors, wine and cold brews just the same.

Pro Tip: Spiro’s is a great place to be on Sundays when they celebrate a three course dinner special for two. $75 for two plus half off wine bottles or you can even bring your own with no corking fee.

Holding onto his Greek roots, the menu at Spiro’s features great seafood, lamb and spinach dishes. You’ll also find American favorites like chicken pot pie and massive sandwiches done the right way. Some standouts include seafood porto, chicken pot pie, spinach pita pizza, lamb chops & mint jelly.

Spiro’s is broken into two spaces: The bar and the restaurant, both of which are spacious and welcoming. The bar menu offers more hands-on fare (+ the real menu) while the dining room’s menu steps it up a notch to steaks, entrees and more.

I was so excited to go to Spiro’s, I recorded my whole experience which you can check out in the video below.

From a great space to a rocking menu and inventive drinks, Spiro’s is a great option for just about any situation. Best way to do it? Go hungry with a DD. Thank me later.
