The LakeHouse: Bay Shore’s Waterfront Jewel

Written by Salvatore DiBenedetto [@TheGrubfather]

The South Shore’s dining scene has unarguably lived in the shadow of its Northern neighbor for quite some time. It’s places like The LakeHouse in Bay Shore that make you question just why the South Shore isn’t more well regarded. In fact, The LakeHouse is more than worthy of a seat amongst Long Island’s very best.

The space, which pays close attention to detail, works incredibly with a quality menu set forth by Chef Matthew Connors. Foodies in a variety of sects will find comfort in a quality-driven culinary prowess that is equally represented by seafood and meat dishes. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, Chef Connors went on to be part of kitchens around the world, including a year long stint in Umbria, Italy and time in Wolfgang Puck’s kitchen.

Outwardly though, it’s; the namesake that bring The LakeHouse’s allure to a whole new level: Ambiance. Cozily set along the water in Bay Shore, the LakeHouse provides diners with an aquatic elegance – ideal for just about any situation. Boat owners can ride right up into the dock for a delicious meal as well.

And those situations can vary depending on where you find yourself at The LakeHouse. The charmingly large space has six dining rooms offering different vibes.

The outdoor space is adorned with both tables and fire pits – a great choice to enjoy a drink (especially in the hotter months).

The indoor dining rooms gives life to laid back elegance suited for a nice date night, celebratory dinner or even private events.

Those looking to keep it simple can find solace in the Tap Room, where a bar menu (+regular menu) feature tasty renditions on the classics.

And if you’re in search of an elevated business meeting room or intimate dining space, the Chef’s Boardroom sets the tone with views into the kitchen and a simple, classy decor.

What’s most striking about The LakeHouse though, is its commitment to passion. Chef Connors is an undoubtably incredible force but his captain skills in the kitchen seem to resonate within his staff. Aided by the humble and kind FOH approach of his wife Eileen Connors and co-owner Jay Guy (who began as a busboy in the Connor’s first location) – the team at The LakeHouse is building more than just a restaurant, they’re building an establishment. Not to mention they have over 10 years under their belt already!

Leaving The LakeHouse, I was inspired by the operations commitment to locality and ingredient integrity. In a dining world where gimmicks have begun to take such a precedent, it’s refreshing to find a place void of the extra and honing in on the simpleness of great food, drinks and views. Check this place out!
