Editor’s Pick: Locale Patchogue

Written by Salvatore DiBenedetto [@TheGrubfather]

Locale is the kind of place you can visit on any night and find yourself in the middle of something good. The sprawling setting is a union of art and industry washed with Italian essence. I’ve found myself there in many situations: Grabbing dinner with my girlfriend, celebrating a friends birthday and even just sitting at the bar by myself with a cold one and hot pizzetta. Locale may be one of Patchogue’s newest additions, but it has already established itself as a powerhouse on the blossoming town’s Main Street.

The Castelli family is no stranger to the restaurant scene. They’re the minds behind Huntington’s acclaimed Primo Piatto, a Sicilian spin on Long Island’s Italian cuisine. Bringing their unique zeal for doing things a bit differently to LocaleĀ was a given for Ariana & Francesco, the oldest of Fred and Angela’s children and the operating managers at Locale. The youngest of the trio, Giuseppe, can be found managing Primo Piatto.

“We just want to give people a really cool experience” Ariana told me “Yes, it’s about the food and the decor, but how did you feel when you left? Did you smile? Did you remember it in the days after? As long as the answer to those questions is yes, then I know we’re doing our job.”

As a diner, I’m always looking for a place that can cater to me regardless of what I’m jonesing for. At Locale, I can satisfy everything from my fire roasted pizza cravings to small, light plates to indulgent entrees with Italian roots. Not to mention the restaurant is huge which allows for some space and gives me options on what kind of vibe I want to immerse myself in.

Yet, no matter how I’m feeling, it’s ultimately irrelevant. Locale has this infectious attitude of positivity that I search for when dining out. Smiling service, a buzzing kitchen (viewable from the dining room), golden lighting and a cool crowd are bench markers of every experience I’ve had here. For that, they’ve earned my trust.

If you plan to visit, here’s some dishes I consider my go-to’s:

  • Vegetarian Pizzetta
  • Rucola e Prosciutto Pizzetta
  • Calamari
  • Arancino (Sicilian risotto ball)
  • Rigatoni Gorgonzola
  • Orecchiette Baresi
  • Chicken Fabrizio
  • Spinach & Artichoke Crusted Salmon

Thank me later.
