The first time I visited Convivium Osteria, I became completely enchanted. The Old World ambiance and rustic menu seemed to lift you off the streets of Park Slope, Brooklyn and transport you to the Mediterranean countryside. Copper pans adorn the walls while candles light up three different dining sections, including a captivating wine cellar that sets the stage for superior romance. I have long named Convivium Osteria among my top NYC restaurants for a variety of reasons, but none so much as its ability to evoke the essence of a complete dining experience.
Convivium was arguably the first restaurant to begin a shift in the way people viewed Northern Park Slope. Nothing like it had been done in the area but Chef-Owner Carlo Pulixi and wife Michelle’s determination birthed a staple of Brooklyn dining through authenticity. Its Mediterranean-Europe roots come as a result of Carlo’s Italian-Sardinian childhood and Michelle’s Brazilian-Portuguese heritage. The restaurant made waves early by blending all of these elements together and using their background in the culinary industry to their advantage.
Aside from its inspiring decor, Convivium’s culinary team delivers powerhouse dishes that tie directly to Carlo’s upbringing in the rural countryside of the Italian island Sardinia. The menu pays homage to both land and sea and follows the course of Carlo’s cooking mantra: Simplicity that allows the high quality ingredients to speak for themselves.

Convivium is perhaps the most ideal spot in Brooklyn for an intimate celebration or date night. No matter where you’re seated in the restaurant, you’re sure to sink into its rustic, sultry vibes. I highly suggest calling ahead though and grabbing a reservation in the wine cellar. There is a long wooden table suitable for a larger party (private events included) and a variety of two and four seater tables. The stocked wine cellar also means a vast selection of wines for diners, 200 bottles to be exact.
Treat yourself to a candle-lit meal, incredible food and a bottle of vino at Convivium Osteria. You deserve it and so do your loved ones.
